Focus on Fraud report

By Michèle Bacchus

Overview

Whether application fraud or crash-for-cash, be it within the motor sector or across the property market, fraudulent claims are crippling both the Insurance industry itself and ultimately, its noble and once historic mandate to help the individual through the funds of the many.

Between June and July 2017, Insurance Post invited subscription members and followers of the brand on social media to take part in a survey relating to fraud. Respondents were given 32 questions to answer, and a total of 72 respondents fully completed the survey.

At the same time as the market survey, Insurance Post commissioned Consumer Intelligence to take 11 fraud-related questions to the public. A total of 1028 responses were received from across the UK.

This report contains the results of these surveys. It presents the numbers relating to the different types of fraud, questions the demand for a shared data platform and produces a startling revelation the market should not ignore in its fight against fraud.

Fraud is taking place all around us by all sorts of people. Has the industry got its strategy wrong?
